Hi! I'm Joanna (she/her), I'm 20 and I'm a third year student at UCL studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I'm massively passionate about science, especially the Life Sciences - I think it's fascinating to learn about how life works. My interest in biology sparked during one of my year 10 science lessons where we learnt about the regulation of blood water potential, I found it awe inspiring to know that biology can spontaneously undergo such a complex process just to keep me alive! And little did I know that there are many many more complex processes that happen behind the scenes of a living organism.
I studied Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A-Level, scoring grades of AAA and 998 at GCSE respectively, and I have experience tutoring all three subjects. My lessons are structured differently to a typical lesson in school, I engage the student in the topic using direct and probing questions, teaching them the crucial thought patten that would allow them to apply their knowledge to the harder, problem solving exam questions. I think that it is important to not only understand how science works, but also understand how it works in real life too, especially as the majority of exam questions in GCSE and A Level have a focus on analytical and critical thinking skills. So, in my lessons, I'll teach the content to encourages the students to think about the real-life applications of their learning, using similar techniques to what I used when I was doing my exams.
