I have been a primary school teacher for over thirty years, and have taught children from five to thirteen years old. I've also tutored Maths to students up to sixteen years old. I am experienced in using the Primary UK English/Maths curriculum, but have also taught in New Zealand. This allows me to bring the best of both approaches to a tutoring session, as New Zealand is a world leader in the teaching of reading and writing.
I take a very personal approach. No child has exactly the same issues with reading, writing or maths as any other. I identify and address any problems or misunderstandings, which boosts your child's achievement and confidence at school. I am used to working with children who have additional needs, both in a primary school setting and as a private tutor.
I address areas such as phonics and reading, handwriting, spelling and creative writing in English.
I have post-graduate training to support children who are struggling with the basics of maths, including number identification, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
I create personalised resources to address your child's needs, and help them to take the next steps on their literacy or numeracy journey.
I can also help children with study skills, and organising their thinking (I'm a trained Teacher of Thinking Maps), which has a positive benefit in all areas of the school curriculum.
I believe a child learns best when they are relaxed, and the learning is fun.
Working at their own pace, and using their own interests and knowledge as the foundation for lessons, every child can experience success with English and Maths.
