Joann R. Umandal-Reeves

Hi, I'm Joann, and I have 10 years of teaching experience from kindergarten to 12th grade. My first teaching experience was as an ESL teacher catering to Korean and Taiwanese students. The setting was in-person with 1:1 or group classes. I also have experience teaching elementary Math and English in the Philippines. I taught for five years in the United States with students with special needs at the 11th and 12th grade level. The subjects that I taught were functional English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. My experience in the US made my teaching career broader in knowledge and understanding of the cultures, traditions, and backgrounds of diverse students. My exposure to different students with diverse needs makes my teaching even better by providing differentiated instructions and a fun learning experience.

I love teaching using collaborative learning and making the learning environment fun for the students. My favorite subjects to teach are English and Basic Math through demonstrations, lectures, and games. I integrate technology into teaching and also use games to make the lesson more interactive and engaging.

I make sure that the students are the center of the learning process. Observing and collecting data through assessments and daily interactions always take place to better serve and support the students to thrive in their education. Strengths, weaknesses, and progress of the students are collected and recorded and if needed and possible, I communicate with parents to ensure that they are updated about their children's learning outcomes. The more support the children have, the better.
