I have 6 years of formal and informal teaching experiences in secondary school Mathematics. I tend to follow Rosenshine's principles.
Typically, in my first lesson, I talk to students for first 10 minutes to understand their background, interests, learning style, and their strengths and weaknesses. Then I give a 40 minute test to the student to test their knowledge on each topic of mathematics and their problem solving skills. The questions will involve bookwork questions to questions where the student will need to show their working out and explain their answers. I will mark them after the lesson, and send as a report before the second lesson.
From the second lesson, my lessons typically start with 10 minutes starter questions - one is a recap for topics covered in previous lessons, one is recall the skills/knowledge needed for this lesson. I will be introducing and teaching the topic for roughly 30 minutes. Then for the last 20 minutes, I will be going through styles of questions with examples, following the I do, We do, You do strategy.
I can always adapt my lessons depending on your needs, the students' learning style, and their strength and areas to improve on.
I look forward to working with you, Joanne
