Hello, my name is Jesse and I am offering my services as an online tutor. I am available to assist you in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and English.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Manchester; I studied there for 3 years and also completed an industrial placement year at a Microbiology laboratory in Thailand. I have previous experience teaching English to children in a French primary school, so I am comfortable working with people of all ages and confident in my ability to deliver lessons in a fun and interactive way, encouraging student engagement.
I am a patient, empathetic and dedicated teacher who loves to share knowledge with others and help them to learn new things. I enjoy helping students to learn in the way best suited to them, aiming to tailor each lesson to the needs of the individual student, adapting the content and method of delivery as required. I enjoy finding new and exciting ways to teach the content, focusing on student interaction.
I take great satisfaction in seeing my students succeed. I take the time to prepare each lesson, helping my students to achieve their goals with careful planning and organisation. I have excellent communication skills, helping me to break down and explain complex ideas. I am observant and can help students to identify areas that they struggle with, which can then be practised and developed through fun and engaging activities.
I take a direct approach to teaching, presenting skills to students and providing examples of their use. I also aim to provide an environment that encourages students to find general patterns within a subject for themselves. Depending on the level of understanding that students show, I can make the lessons more challenging for those ready for more advanced work, or less challenging for those who struggle with the subject. I find that activity-based learning can help students to learn, finding teachable lessons within everyday activities.
As a biochemist, I am passionate about Science and its many applications in the modern world. I like to keep up to date with the latest research, and enjoy learning about the potential benefits of new technologies as they emerge within the scientific community. I am particularly interested in microbiology, and I believe that many breakthroughs will be made in sectors including therapeutics, waste management, nutrition and even computing as we continue to discover the many wonderful benefits that microorganisms have to offer.
