I have a vast hinterland of knowledge in my specialist subject of history and can go above and beyond in providing insight into any topics from any exam. I edit the St Andrews History Society Historical Journal that publishes undergraduate and postgraduate writing and I am an editor and staff writer for the St Andrew Economist, a student publication on Current Affairs. As a sixth-former I won the School Literary Prize, and I won an essay competition by Fitzwilliam College Cambridge in 2018.
My teaching involves a combination of detailed knowledge-based discussion and immersion to ensure the student understands their material very well and clinical practice with past papers, essay-writing techniques and exam technique to ensure they maximise their marks. My lessons are usually structured around first a discussion of the topic where I will get students to brainstorm their knowledge/understanding and then I will explore their understanding with them look at essay questions or exam past papers. Together we will plan essay answers and then draft some answers. Then finally I will discuss further exam tips if relevant and necessary.
