Jennifer Akdemir

I am a qualified teacher of ESOL and have been teaching since I have taught students from a wide variety of countries, and at different levels. My preferred age groups are teens and adults - this is where I have most of my experience! I have also spent some time studying English linguistics to better understand the structure of my own language in order to communicate it better to students.

I have prepared students for exams, for example KET, PET, FCE, IELTS and the Trinity GESE, and have taught professional adults as well as young learners.

I believe in establishing a rapport with the student through finding out about him or her, and carrying out a needs analysis which can form part of the initial lesson. From there we can work on what the student's needs and goals are.

As I language learner myself, I recognise the importance of all four skills in langauge learning. One area which is often neglected is listening, although I firmly believe that it is a great way to learn native-like pronunciation and improve understanding and self-confidence in the language.

Every student is different and learning is a journey. Language learning is no exception. Never be afraid to take the first step!

Some students need extra work on pronunciation and here online learning really comes into its own, with the self-consciousness of the classroom taken out of the picture.
