In our first session, I will talk to my students about their progress, and what they're looking to improve upon and get to know their interests to motivate them to enjoy the subject more. I will then make a week-by-week plan, which can always be changed according to the student's needs. My help can include things like learning grammar skills and sentence structure, storytelling and narrative work, help with literacy homework or, depending on age and ability, paragraph formation. I can also provide work on different word types, sentence types and how to identify different word types in sentences and stories.
I have good experience tutoring A-level psychology and worked as a teaching assistant during my gap year. This involved working with students of different ages and levels of need, with some students needing primary-school-style learning and worksheets. I worked with children who needed help with basic grammar, sentence formation and story-telling. I also did some work with spelling and using capital letters.
The children I worked with ranged from low to significant need, whether that be emotional or academic support. Some of my students had Autism, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, slow processing of visual and audio information and dyslexia. Others had unspecified learning difficulties that made some lessons more difficult for them.
I hope to one day train to become a primary school teacher. I really enjoy working with children and teaching them new skills. All children can fulfil their potential, and deserve some help to do it!
