I have been an English teacher and tutor for 13 years. Using my expertise, I tailor tutoring sessions to the needs of the individual and utilise live marking and immediate feedback to ensure students are given every opportunity to develop. My sessions are very structured, and use the ‘I do, we do, you do’ approach so students are exposed to live modelling and teacher commentary. They then get the opportunity to do the work independently with as much a scaffold as necessary for their ability and skill set. Students are given ample opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge base; however, I avoid cognitive overload by avoiding giving students too much information so they cannot apply their learning. I also utilise retrieval practice to ensure that students have frequent opportunities to revisit their learning which ensures the knowledge gets transferred from their working memory to their long term memory. I deliver sessions with enthusiasm and my passion for English shines through. I offer tutoring for KS2 SATS, 11+, 13+, GCSE English literature and language, and AS/2 English literature. I draw on my extensive teaching experience, as well as knowledge gleaned from my Masters in English literature, to plan engaging, informative lessons which give my students the opportunity to progress and reach their potential. My students have achieved outstanding exam results, and many have succeeded in being accepted into academically competitive selective schools. When planning sessions, I prefer to create my own resources so I can tailor for the needs of the individual and provide a truly personalised learning experience.
Jen was a fantastic English tutor for my daughter. She was supportive and nurtured her so that she could reach her full potential ahead of her GCSE exams.
