I have plenty of experience teaching students in younger years for longer and shorter periods of time suing the tutoring system that the school that I go to puts in place for older students to help younger students. I have tutored a student for Maths for about 6 weeks: I helped them do their homework and explained difficult concepts to them. I have also tutored a student for French for about three months: I helped explain grammatical structures and helped them with their exam technique.
My best qualities are the fact that I am patient and persistent meaning I will spend as long as is needed to tutor a student and I will think of creative methods to explain concepts to students as I know that there is not one method that works for all people. I also think that I am relatively motivating which I believe is invaluably important, more so than talent or love for the subject.
I have many teaching methods and of course, I adapt these to the person and subject that I am tutoring but I have found in my experience that tackling one concept at a time is the most efficient way to teach someone as this minimises confusion. I have also found that regular repetition helps the person remember what I have taught them the best, which is why I will usually do a mini ‘test’ at the start of each session to make sure the person is actively recalling what they have learnt.
