Jayne began her musical studies at the age of 9 playing in brass bands but by the age of 16 decided to train to be an opera singer. Upon entry at the Royal Northern College of Music she was tutored by Honor Sheppard FRNCM RMCM of the famous Deller Consort and latterly the international voice teacher and Baritone Neil Howlet M.A cantab.
During her time there Jayne sang the lead role of Jenufa, performed in the Batignano Opera Festival ( Italy ) and won the Dame Eva Turner Prize for dramatic voices.
In 2002 Jayne performed the title role of Rusalka for Stowe Opera in Czech,
Jayne has worked all over the country performing in Oratorio works such as Verdi’s Requiem, Mendelsohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Nelson Mass, Messiah and more notably worked along side the late composer David Fanshawe performing the soprano part of African Sanctus with a variety of choral societies up and down the country.
After choosing to settle down raising a family Jayne took a turn into teaching and has taught to considerable success in schools such as Terra Nova, Knutsford High School, The Wellington (Altrincham) All Hallows School Macclesfield, and from her home in Bowdon pupils from Altrincham Girls Grammar, Loretto, North Cestrian, The Wellington, Sale Grammar School, Bowdon Church School, The Bollin and latterly at AVR Dance in Blackpool.
During her time teaching in the Altrincham area of Bowdon many students over the years have come and gone to great success. Jayne’s students often always won in local music festivals coming away with 1st prizes such as Bowdon Youth Festival, Hazel Grove, and recently one of Jayne’s student’s won Young Alderley Singer of the year and the Open recital category in the Alderley Edge Festival in 2022, who in the same year performed with Russell Watson in The Hale Barns Carnvial 2022 & 2023.
Jayne’s students have been / still members of choirs such as National Youth Choir of Great Britain, Cantamus Girls Choir, The Halle Children’s Choir and the Halle Youth Choir which is remarkable in itself because Jayne did live in the house of the conductor and Wagner champion Hans Richtor that conducted the Halle Orchestra in the early 20th Century !
Jayne’s alumini is also impressive as she is passionate about teaching correct vocal techniques in particularly young singers wishing for a career in singing or simply for a hobby.
Regardless of what style and repertoire the singer needs a good Classical foundation a bit like in dance. Jayne teaches the bel canto style of singing looking back to the likes of Lamperti, Nava, Lablache, Viardot, Garcia upon good posture, breath control, legato line, the passaggio, trilling, coloratura etc….
Jayne teaches the singer the detail in the text in whatever language so it’s correctly pronounced so to be sung correct in the rhythm of the language itself which often overlooked by singers.
Jayne has a good working knowledge of the French, Italian, German, Russian & Czech languages in both opera, oratorio & song.
Jayne’s students have benefited and the results speak for themselves:- in Musical Theatre & Classical
Knutsford High School :-

Glyndebourne have also introduced the Junior Academy this year and she has very young students that have been selected for the summer school this year.
All in all Jayne has a great record for getting students into all the major UK music conservatoires

Jayne has built up a very successful teaching practice in the Altrincham area for over 20 years and she still travels to the area to teach as a mobile for now, so now that Jayne has relocated to the Sandbach area she is willing to travel to homes or they go to her.
Jayne would like to rebuild her teaching practice around her home in the Sandbach and surrounding areas.
