I have taught at University, FE and Secondary level for over 30 years. I will use a range of methods in order to make the best progress and individually tailor lessons to this purpose. I expect students to undertake short tasks between lessons that support their learning journey.
After an initial session to assess student needs, I will draw up a timetable and an estimate of how many sessions I believe will be needed. This is essential I believe so that you understand firstly the total costs to achieve change, but also so you know what each session will entail in order to prepare. Depending on individuals and circumstances I would suggest at least one session, but no more than three per week. Personally I believe that it is quality and not necessarily quantity that is important and after each session one should see firm progress. Lessons will be a mixture of coaching in the 'technical' elements of the written language and discussion of texts which can be, if required, linked to followed courses. I aim for lessons to be (hopefully) enjoyable but students should expect to find themselves challenged and engage in discussion.
I am friendly (I don't bite!), have a good sense of humour and welcome questions from students - so DO speak up if you don't understand! My job is to help you to do so and I am happy when my students achieve the desired results.
I look forward to meeting you.
