I am a native Spanish with seventeen years of experience as a private Spanish tutor. I am at present teaching a number of private classes for individuals and groups, for children and adults. I also teach groups of children in after-school clubs. During the last 10 years I have been running my own Spanish afterschool Club with up to thirteen members during some periods. I have been running Spanish conversation sessions in a local school, Immanuel College, for GCSE and A level students from three to four hours a week during the last twelve years, including online and telephone sessions during the pandemic.
At least half of my tutoring during the last three years (roughly since the pandemic began), has been online. I have used mostly Microsoft Teams and Skype. I am still teaching online lessons I used to teach face to face before the pandemic and feel comfortable in this medium.
I am familiar with the GCSE and A level curriculum, as apart from my experience in the school mentioned above, many of my private lessons are for students who need help towards their exams for these qualifications. I have made use of past exam papers; oral, listening, writing, and reading exercises. I have obtained this material from the AQA and Edexcel websites, as well as other boards.
I put especial emphasis on spoken language and try to increase my students self-confidence. I use role play, encouraging my students’ imagination. In this way they practise the language, improve their pronunciation, and see the usefulness of a foreign language in real life.
I have a clear scheme of the key grammatical differences between English and Spanish languages and try to convey them to my students. I try to clarify these grammatical topics and give homework to my students to help them consolidate their knowledge of them.
