Hi All! My name is Jasmine and I am a 2nd Year student at the University of Bristol, studying Politics and German. I have studied the German language, as well as German history, linguistics and culture for 7.5 years now, and while preparing for my year abroad in 2023, I am keen to impart my knowledge on some aspiring German linguists! In school, I achieved a Level 9 at GCSE from North London Collegiate School, and an A* at A level from Brighton College in the subject, and am familiar with the teaching methodologies used for these examinations, as well as with specific tips, tricks and learning methods that worked for me, and helped me to achieve success and a love for the language in my own exams!
As a German university student myself, I understand the complex way in which the German language is formed, and how this can be difficult to understand and pick up at first. Therefore, I like to base my lessons around what you feel you need to focus on, and am happy to discuss this prior to meeting. Having completed both my GCSEs and A Levels in German within the past 6 years, I am still familiar with teaching methodologies and content of the syllabi used to teach the subject at different levels, and am keen to impart my own knowledge, which helped me to successfully achieve a Level 9 and A*!
Prior to the lesson, I would love to hear what you would like to work on specifically before each session, in able to give me advance timing to prepare for our session. For example, if you are keen to focus on an element of grammar, I will prepare exercises and tasks to help develop and solidify your understanding of this.
Generally, the lesson will begin by discussing your existing understanding of a topic. Then we will revise this, going over specific things to remember, or tips and tricks to make you more confident in your understanding, before we move onto specific practical tasks and questions that will involve you putting your knowledge into practise.
Lessons will take place with a combination of German and English being spoken, weighted either way depending on your specific needs; for example, if you struggle with speaking, we will focus more on completing the lessons in German, but if we are discussing grammar, then we will discuss in English and complete practical tasks in German.
