Some are direct measures, such as tests, concept maps, portfolios, auditions, etc, and others are more indirect, such as self-reports, inventory of prior courses and experiences, etc.help students assess their own learning over a period of time and give teachers and schools important information for long-term planning.The most reliable way to assess students' prior knowledge is to assign a task (e.g., quiz, paper) that gauges their relevant background knowledge.
