I start my lesson with a warm up (small talk, picture, video, game) to introduce the topic and to get my student's attention. The main focus is on the needs of the student. We can focus on speaking, listening or writing. I always include a bit of each into every lesson in form of exercise or audio/video files. I also use flashcards to increase vocabulary. A smaller part of the lesson is dedicated to grammar. For this I use text book exercise from various books and the internet. Huge part of my lesson consists of PowerPoint presentation for the visual effect.
Reading and writing topic is based on my student's hobbies and needs. It could be either learning (in)formal writing or reading my student's favourite book or article and then having discussion about it. At the end of the lesson there is always a recap of what we did and space for questions.
If the student shows interest, I am more than happy to provide home work or just extra materials to study in their free time.
I operate on 80:20 Rule. The student speaks minimum of 80 percent of the lesson. There is never something like a stupid question and I encourage my students to ask and be curious. I am striving to create an environment where my students feel safe, have fun and are not afraid to ask questions.
All materials including textbooks, paper and pens are provided by me. So the only thing you need to do is to show up with willingness to learn.
