I have been teaching classes related to biology since after my secondary school day. I started by taking primary school students integrated science which is a broad concept of biology and physics for primary school students. After my University, I started taking secondary school students biology but I prefer being a private tutor than a general class teacher because this enable me to understand what each student really needs to excel in their student.
Different student tends to assimilate at different rate and mood. Although my general mode of teaching is Interactive methods coupled with some funny biology jokes in between but I understand that different methods works for different students therefore, I tend to experiment the first few classes and see the best way the knowledge I am trying to impact to the student is assimilated.
I prefer online classes with my students because I understand students have other obligations also and if a student can schedule a time that actually works him/her in an environment that is comfortable, then this increases the chances of the students been able to understand knowledge been passed to the student. I also try not overwhelm student with excessive exercises but prefer to make student write in their own way what they have gained and understand after a specific number of classes. This is because I believe examination is not truly a test of knowledge but if student can express their view and understanding, it will go a long way to help tutor know how best to further explain concepts to them
