I don't just teach music, I teach music FOR YOU!

I discuss the relevant subject(s) with the student to discover what their interests and hopes are within that area, and tailor the lessons and syllabus to accommodate their needs and wishes. I entirely focus on helping them get to where they want to be, and resist pushing them down any educational lane that is deemed undesirable by the student. It's all about harnessing education to boost passion. I will help them achieve the skills and knowledge they need to fulfil their own personal desires with music.

I have official Grade System syllabi that I usually base my lesson plans and trajectory off. However, I also take influence from my experience studying music in college, and apply some of the subject material and teaching approach from that education system also. Aside from that, my experience of teaching privately without aiming towards achieving grades is much different. Many people have the aim of wanting to be able to entertain themselves, play their favourite song, or have the ability to play for some friends and family at parties/occasions. In these cases, it's all about examining what skill are necessary to get each student to these points, and plotting a learning plan to get them there, including the necessary skills and theoretical knowledge that would benefit them in each of these differing situations.

However, even if I am working with a student who is working towards earning Grades, I try not to make the learning material too prescriptive. I try to collaborate with them to find a piece they like that is also exam-worthy and suitable for the relevant grade.
