Jamie in a nutshell
I have previously taught English as a foreign language in Thailand and coached rugby to age groups u9s, u8s and u7s. I have also taught Spanish to several of my university classmates as a favour, having taken a refresher course in my second year I quickly re-found my love for foreign languages and improved upon my already high level drastically.

In terms of teaching English, it is a complicated and ambiguous subject at the various levels throughout secondary school. This means that I believe in paying close attention to the mark schemes and syllabus requirements and encouraging students to engage with them independently as to best judge their own level and become self-reflective and self-improving as I did at their age with the help of my teachers. In pushing attention where is actually required and encouraging students to draw from the parts of the subject they enjoy the most (or hate the least). I can insert these principles into my teaching of both critical and creative writing.

Regarding Spanish, I subscribe to a mix of two particularly strong and well supported, among linguistic scholars, methods of learning. These are spaced repetition and comprehensible input. You may research these methods for yourself as there is a wealth of evidence to support them, as well as my own progress in the language. Again, this aims, particularly with comprehensible input, to make learning fun. This is actually easier with a foreign language in my opinion than any other subject or material. The beauty of this is that once we reach a point where we have a relatively basic level of comprehension in a language, we can simply do the things we enjoy but input the target language where we would normally have our native language. In some cases, having both at the same time via different mediums may also be helpful. If you love romance novels, read in the target language. If you love Marvel movies, watch them in the target language with subtitles in your native language or even in the target language itself. Wherever possible, engage and spend time with your target language in a capacity that is not the usual droll of grammar tables and grey classrooms (though that is not to dispute the usefulness of spending time in those classrooms with those tables, they help provide a solid and leakproof foundation to build your language learning upon). I myself implemented these methods after finishing school and have seen my Spanish improve more in just the first six months of this method than the seven years in which I studied it at school.

I look forward to seeing you for either of these subjects. Below please see a complete list of my academic grades throughout my schooling, if you wish to be tutored in any of the other subjects listed below, please contact me and we will discuss what I can do for you.
