I am an experienced teacher who has successfully transitioned into an online tutor with over 17 years’ experience of teaching and tutoring Key stage 3 and 4 science and maths as well as A level biology and physics. As part of this I have taught the combined GCSE science courses as well as all 3 strands of separate science using the AQA and EDEXCEL specifications. I have also taught Edexcel and AQA GCSE maths as well as IGCSE science courses. At A level I have taught all of the major exam boards for both A level biology and physics and have also tutored on these every year. My results are always above the expected progress rates for all key stages and my A level Biology results have been in the top 10 in the country for value added scores and have been the only state school to achieve this year on year. My A Level physics results were also always high with the highest proportion of students achieving A and A* grades.

I have written thousands of resources over the course of my career and have run training sessions for other members of staff on effective teaching and learning and maximising progress of all learners. Since leaving mainstream teaching, I have developed my writing skills in the private education sector and have written curriculums and schemes of work for many different companies including online teaching companies. This has given me a great insight into the different requirements of online teaching, and I incorporate this into my tutoring sessions to ensure they are as interactive and as engaging as a face-to-face session would be.

Since transitioning to online tutoring, I have tutored hundreds of students through a range of different qualifications and exam boards, I use my skills as a teacher along with my experiences as a learning designer to ensure that the lessons are individually tailored for each students’ needs with a focus on making rapid progress in the students understanding of the content covered. In addition, I have marked GCSE science and maths along with A level biology and physics for major exam boards and use this experience to ensure that there is a focus in my sessions on improving exam technique and understanding the critical aspects of answers in terms of what the examiners are looking for. This has led to the students I tutor improving rapidly and achieving the grades they need to take the next step in their education.

In addition to my classroom teaching, I also have experience of teaching online to international students and have done this at a key stage 3, 4 and 5 level successfully with excellent results. I have taught many different nationalities and ensure that the sessions delivered are accessible for all and engaging. I have also tutored many international students in entrance exams with 100% success. In all of my tutoring I ask the question, what would I want for my children and this is something which comes across with all of the feedback I receive from the parents and students which I have worked with.
