The main aim of my lessons are to develop your understanding of business. I think the best way to gain a truly deep understanding is to learn how to apply key theoretical concepts to real world applications.
In the initial contact stage I identify the current knowledge base of the student, what their aims for the sessions are, and then custom tailor a lesson plans to achieve this.
Once we’ve established a roadmap of which areas we want to cover, I will typically work with students in blocks of 10 sessions. I find this best as over 10 sessions block we can divide the topics and cover each in detail.
In terms of lesson structure, the first 6 sessions of the 10 session block will be dedicated to going through the topics theoretical concepts. We do this through a mixed approach of utilising custom tailored resource packs, Q&A style recall, and game based learning methods. In these there is flexibility, as I aim to adapt teaching methods to suit individual students learning style - each student receives a unique tailored approach to maximise the benefit of each session. At the end of these 6 sessions, the 7th session is dedicated to recall of all we’ve covered. Any gaps in knowledge can be highlighted here and we work towards fixing these in sessions 8-10. Typically, most students do not require all 8-10 sessions to complete their knowledge. Once we’re confident there is a sound understanding of all the covered material, we move onto applying these to real world situations and case studies. I like to use these sessions to analyse case studies which are linked to students own interests - I find that by doing this there is significantly more engagement and understanding of material as it becomes fun engaging and links academia to areas of interest.
A little bit about me, I’m a recent BSc Business Management graduate from Lancaster University who is fascinated by the power of business to enact social, environmental, and economic change. I’ve found in my own studies that there can often be a disconnect between academic study and real world business applications, as a tutor I aim to overcome this by inspiring the next generation of business leaders to view the world through a lens of opportunity and engage literature with action. Outside of education, I successfully started several e-commerce entrepreneurial ventures which kickstarted my love for all things business. In my personal life I enjoy outdoor adventure sports, football, and producing music.
If you think we’d be a good fit don’t hesitate to get in touch! Look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers
James
