My lessons are creative, personable and focused. We will set goals together, start from where you're at, and I will design a creative, varied and achievable pathway to reaching the goals.
Getting to know you is key: What music do you like and dislike? What parts of being a musician (because that's what you are!) do you find easy, difficult, confusing, frustrating? What are you most interested in? What do you need to be good at to get the most out of your schooling? Do you learn best through picture, sound, practical, reading or a combination of them?
My experience covers everything from classical music and musicals, to hip hop and progressive metal, with plenty of funk, music from around the world, dance, pop and film music thrown in. I play trombone, piano and guitar, I sing and I compose. And, I've performed at some of the great venues in Europe, including singing with Hans Zimmer at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
Drawing on my experience, I will use a range of tools to help you smash your goals - aural, visual, recall, listening, practical, games, study, multi-sensory (e.g. drawing a picture of music, or writing music to a picture) history, culture - always crafted to suit your learning.
Testing is essential, but not high stakes. In my teaching, it is a checkpoint to see where we're at, and whether what we're doing is helping or we need to tweak it.
Finally, I will always listen. I am the teacher, and I will challenge you to achieve. But, I want to learn from you, too! Bring your opinions, experiences, culture, background, likes, dislikes, fears and dreams. It's all part of the learning adventure we're about to go on.
See you there.
