GCSE/A-LEVEL STUDENTS
I offer structured lessons in which we review content, followed by exercises (which could include past paper questions) specific to your exam board specifications and curriculum.
Your answers will inform me on how to design our next lesson together. That way, I can tailor each lesson to individual students. It's important that I'm not simply rehashing school lessons but pinpointing the areas where we need to put the most focus, making sure we build a solid foundation of understanding before moving on.
A typical lesson will look like:
Going over previous content: 5 -10 minutes
Most improvement will come from reviewing the content from the last lesson. I prefer to do this at the beginning when brains are fresher.
For exam prep, we will review previous answers to past paper questions so that you can answer them in the style needed to get the marks.
Content: 30 – 40 minutes
Engagement is the key to getting the most out of our lessons. I will lead you to the answers, not lecture, to find out where any lack of understanding is present.
Whatever pace we need to go at, no matter how many different ways we need to go through concepts, we will find the style of learning that works for you to have that 'Ah ha' moment.
Communication (Exit ticket): 5 - 10 minutes
The best scientists are highly effective communicators. They can explain ideas to a five-year-old.
During this part of the class, through exercises, you'll be explaining to me the content we have just gone through. This will cement what we have learnt in your head.
For exam prep, this could take the form of exam-style questions.
