Depending on the level you are, I adjust how I tend to teach, this may be structuring the first 15-20 practising more basic techniques and then applying these in exam questions. other students tend to grasp these ideas quickly so I will adjust to push their abilities further. I try to boost those skills which you may already have and then pull weaker areas up to a stronger level.
I have always tried to show my ways of thought as well as keeping to the ideas the student may even come up with, this allows them to pick up new concepts yet use subjects they already know to help them remember.
