James Erickson

Hello! My name is James, and I love teaching English! I hold a BA in Creative Writing, a Master's in Romantic and Victorian Studies, and I am finishing my PhD in English Literature. I have been a university English tutor for the last two years and have covered literature from 1680 to the present. The format of my tutorials is largely discussion-based, as I believe that the best way to grasp English, or any language, is through conversation with willing and fully-engaged listeners. As I am a huge fan of world mythology, fantasy writing, and comic book literature, I enjoy incorporating these kinds of stories into my tutorials—and I love when my students share their favourite kinds of stories to really get the discussion going! As I don't abide by one particular mode of tutoring, I am particularly flexible in terms of meeting my students' individual needs and I encourage my students to let me know what it is they desire to learn. Like learning any language, there is no concrete path towards mastering English and the roads are many. My job as your tutor is to help you find your own enjoyable route towards the destination!
