I will firstly establish the student’s own preferred teaching medium and personally tailor the lessons to the way that they will best learn. I find that a clear, engaging, online PowerPoint covering grammar helps. Then, individual exercises from textbooks I have purchased across the range available at GCSE, working in tandem with their own textbook. I hope to offer a fun, engaging approach to the difficult subjects that are Latin and Greek, incorporating my own supply of tips. For the language papers, I have an archive of past papers and questions. For literature, I have personally created past papers for the set texts of the current exam board, which I will freely provide. I will then do a walkthrough of the past papers after the student’s completion. Depending on the student’s own preference, I will set homework - however, if they feel it adds nothing, then this won’t be obligatory.
I particularly found grammar the biggest obstacle, but have now mastered it due to my memorisation of all the declensions. With this in mind, I will be regularly testing and upgrading the student’s knowledge of these basic rules. Moreover, tests directly from the vocabulary list provided by the exam boards will supplement these. Ultimately, it will come down to the student’s personal requests and weakest areas, from which I will base the activities to their own level. This shouldn’t take too long to establish their level and needs, which will kickstart an informative series of lessons.
I want to offer as much help as is needed, from the fresh perspective of a GCSE student!
