I am a recent graduate, having graduated with a 1st Class Philosophy with Politics degree (BA) from Manchester Metropolitan University. I have upwards of 3 years of mentoring and tutoring experience, working in the public, private and charity sector. The format in which I teach is often in one to one, with lessons lasting 50 to 60 minutes with a 10-minute break in-between. However, I am always willing to accommodate as each student has often learns differently and has different educational needs. For me my tutees are my priority, my aim being to build their confidence by expanding on their subject knowledge and giving them the critical tools of self-analysis. As a result the way in which I like to form lessons and set work is according to what my student feels they struggle with in relation to their chosen topic, to properly understand what gaps in knowledge are present. I like to ascertain this by engaging in conversion and discussion as to how they feel about said subject. Consequently I like to keep things relatively informal with my students while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Lessons in of themselves are often tailored to each student, but often consist of analysis of completed or assinged work, short activities and discussions surrounding relevant concepts, events and situations. The aim of this is to engage my tutees in critical analysis of the own work, the ideas the may encounter and how to approach them. The larger aim of lessons being that students get to a point in which they can self-improve and analysis and so no longer need my guidance, becoming fully fledge independent learners.
