I am a second-year undergraduate economics student at the University of Warwick and I have been tutoring for a year. Primarily, I tutor in mathematics ranging from KS2 to A-Level. I enjoy tutoring and I want to insert confidence into my students and prepare them for exams as well as getting them to enjoy the subject.
In my first lesson with a student, I begin by asking them what topics they do not feel confident in answering and by giving them a variety of questions to see what level they are operating at. Then in normal lessons, I start each lesson off by going through homework that I assigned previously, explaining new ideas and topics, then going through example questions, and lastly allowing them to practise on their own. I like to engage and talk with my students a lot so quite often I will ask students to talk me through their thought process when they are answering questions and try to get them to explain what they are doing and offer extra reasoning and help.
