I have 5 years of tutoring Maths and Applied Maths at Leaving Certificate Higher Level in Ireland. I like to go through maths questions fully, and do a detailed breakdown of the solution. I then ask the student to complete a similar style question, going through the method with them aiding them where they are struggling. I like to incorporate pneumonic devices to aid memory as well as other techniques to make the lesson memorable. I will then progress to asking the students to complete the similar style question on their own without help.
I like to challenge the students but not make them feel lost. I strive for my students to have strong understanding of concepts which allows them to tackle questions in a robust manner applying the relevant principles and using the appropriate skills to understand what they are trying to solve for firstly, and then how to solve it.
