I use a personal syllabus focused on communicative skills. We learn a language for many reasons, but main one, is because we want to communicate with the world in that language. To do so, it is important to adquire the needed vocabulary and habit to interact in various social contexts.
I really like to have direct interaction with my students becuase I considere it is important to get know each other so I can direct the methodology to knowledges my students are interested to learn. As a professional linguistic, I considere the teaching of languages must be focused on the four communactive and linguistic skills: oral production and listening comprehension, and writing production and reading comprehension. Once we develop those skills, we are able to socialize in every context.
Most likely, the lessos will be on line, which should not represent any inconvinience for the learning process, because we will not just be people talking through a web cam, we are going to be people we have a social interaction, who share experiences, thoughts and learn by using audiovisual content. Of course, grammar is never left aside since this is the basis of the pyramid. The idea is to achieve your goal of becoming a Spanish speaker, and we know that we are there when we are able to communicate our personality and our own way of speaking in the target language without modificating the linguistic nature of it.
I strongly affirm that learning a language is a 50-50 process, and one of the best advices I always give to my students is: don't conform yourselrves with the practice and lessons of your classes, your should always take it beyond.
