About me
I specialise in maths but can deliver the whole primary curriculum to 5 to 11 year olds in a fun, practical and engaging way. Is your child struggling to catch up at school or maybe they just need a boost before SATs. Maybe I can help.

I’m a retired headteacher with 20 years as a secondary and primary teacher and over 20 years as a successful head in a number of primary schools. I specialise in maths and have a Dip Ed in Primary Mathematics Teaching. I’ve worked extensively with SEND children and children with school anxiety as well as planning and delivering interventions for children with a wide range of needs.
MY APPROACH I get to know the child (including through a free first session for the parent/carer and child) - they need to feel safe and I need to understand where the child is and identify barriers to learning. Every child is an individual. My philosophy has always been to start with the child — their challenges, their needs, what they enjoy and how they work best. The emphasis is on ensuring the child experiences success and grows in confidence so they are able to engage with the next steps in their educational journey. Learning should be engaging and fun!
LESSON STRUCTURE I plan a short or longer term programme of work. Each session begins and ends with a short assessment to show progress followed by an engaging input on the skills to be learned and a chance to practice and apply these. The activities are practical, wherever possible, engaging and carefully structured to ensure success. Parents/carers are involved throughout and follow up activities and online support can be available if needed between sessions.
WHAT I CAN OFFER Individual tuition online, at my home or, if local to Rothley, at the child’s home. All primary subjects (age 5 to 11) but specialism in maths and English I offer support with specific topics, SATs preparation, ongoing support with schoolwork or short term catch up programmes. Each programme is planned around your child’s individual needs. Support for home schooling — short or long term, with optional follow up activities and email support between sessions. The cost includes resources and a free introductory session to get to know your child and find out what you would like from the sessions.
Jacky is warm and friendly and analytical in her assessment of children's learning gaps and proactive in filling these. She is experienced and reliable and my child really enjoyed the practical sessions.
