I'm a First Class graduate of Philosophy and have over two and half year's experience teaching online and in the classroom. I have worked as a learning support assistant to special needs students and have taught classrooms of up to fifty students in Vietnam. My experience has mainly been focused on teaching English as a Foreign Language - I have taught a broad range of age groups, proficiencies and requirements - but I want to also expand my portfolio into tutoring Philosophy - a subject I'm very passionate about.
I approach each student as one-of-a-kind and adapt material and my approach to what I feel is best for them. I have a lot of experience breaking down and contextualising difficult concepts and know some tips and tricks to understanding Philosophical writings.
Each lesson will be around one hour; first lesson will involve getting to know the student, what their goals and difficulties are, what the syllabus requires, and what the best plan of attack will be. Subsequent lessons will involve a lot of discussion and questions relating to the topics in question. We will go over past papers, work out the best ways to scrutinise philosophical articles, and really emphasise the key qualities of theory. I hope to help students to really understand the topics, so that they do not just repeat it by rote.
I like to keep the parents involved in the process as well, so that they know how to best support the student, whether this is a once in a while check-in or a more routine system.
