I started tutoring 5 years ago with piano and mathematics, and since then I have taught a wide variety of students ranging from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5.
I strongly believe that a one-size-fits-all approach to maths tutoring is not effective, so over time I have refined my method to create bespoke tutoring sessions formed around what my student needs to succeed.
I start topics by looking at the content through examples, ensuring that my students are able to tackle any type of question within a certain topic whilst also becoming familiar with the mark scheme.
If I notice they are struggling in a particular area, I dedicate more time and resources to that topic until they are confident.
I also observe them completing questions, so their learning is as active as possible.
Maths can be tricky sometimes, so I encourage questions during my lessons. The atmosphere is non-judgemental and welcoming, and I return to topics from time to time to keep them fresh in my students mind.
I tutor through Google meet. Every week I will create a meeting, and share my screen where my student will be able to see me writing and doing examples. Accompanying this is a Google classroom page, where I will post homework and the notes from the lesson.
Both services are easy to navigate, and allow my students to contact me outside of lesson in case they need help with the homework.
