My lessons are structured the way I think mathematics is taught best. First I teach a strong understanding of the content in a way that makes sense to the student and in a way that shows how it fits in alongside other topics, which can sometimes feel quite disconnected from each other making the subject often seem vast and difficult to understand, whereas I am confident that when taught the right way maths is something everyone can succeed in. Then I focus on linking everything back to the exam, using tips and tricks from my own experience to help students better understand how best to approach exam questions. While I have a passion for the subject and would love to teach maths for the sake of maths, I am very aware that everyone has an exam to pass and a goal to achieve, so I believe this format helps focus on achieving goals and getting higher exam results while still leaving enough room to keep students interested in the subject which I feel is also a good source of motivation. Not every topic will be something the student gets right away, so I believe in keeping parts of each session flexible to better tailor to their needs, maybe more time is needed on the current topic or maybe we need to go back and recap a previous topic that the student struggled with and needs more improvement on.
