Having experienced going to someone for tutoring during my undergraduate degree, I know how valuable it is to a student struggling with a subject. More importantly, I have learned what are effective ways of tutoring someone and what is not ideal for when tutoring. The most crucial aspect for me is that I always start with what the student wants to get out of the session and learning the subject. I want to know why the student wants to do this and what they want to achieve after. Once I know and have established what the aims of the student are, I will cater my lesson to their needs because it's vital to understand that no two students are the same; what works for one student may not necessarily work for another, and so I want to make sure my lesson play is tailored to each student.
Ideally, I would like to setup with a google meet and use my screen for screen sharing to go through the powerpoint of my lesson. I also will be making use of the interactive whiteboard feature to make sure the student plays a part in the lesson and they are't just sat there listening to me. Giving little interactive moments allows the student to apply what I am trying to teach them as well. Once the lesson is over, I will ask them if they haven't understood anything and if there is anything that they would like to go over.
