I'd begin with a recap of the previous lesson and any issues that my student may still be unsure of. This would include a recap of any work that was required for them to complete since I last saw them. I'd then outline what subjects and areas we'd be covering in the current lesson.

The lesson would then move to the first topic, with a clearly articulated description of the module followed by several example questions and scenarios. These examples would show thorough working out, progressing in difficulty and covering all variations of question types.

We'd then work through several questions together, where I'd take the lead, breaking down the question and showing my working out. The student would then tackle a question and run me through their thought process and working out of the question. Depending on the level of the student, I'd step in if they either ask for my help or they're going quickly offtrack. We'd then work on a few more example questions together and I'd see how confident they're feeling about the topic. Before moving onto the next topic, I'd ask them to 'teach me' in their own words what they've learnt as I've found this is a great tool for solidifying skills and knowledge.

Depending on the lesson length, I'd typically cover 1 large topic and 3-5 subtopics. If the student has their own material they'd like to bring to the lesson to work through e.g. practice papers, previous tests, homework this would be perfect in creating the personalised core structure of the lesson required.

When there is 10 minutes of the lesson remaining I'd go through and summarise with the student what we've leant today and create a few questions for them to do between the time the lesson ends and when we next meet up. I'd also ask if there's anything they're still unsure of and try my best to verbalize in relatable language what it is they're still having difficulties understanding.
