Stage 1: Consultation/Assessment Stage
This is the stage where, I discuss with the student their individual needs and support required.
Look at the resources and materials the student is using, making recommendations if necessary on the resource strength and weakness, along with any further resources they can look to invest in, if needs be.
Based on the areas for further improvement, in learning techniques and gaps in learning knowledge, an action plan is then devised based on the identified areas of improvement of which all future lessons will be reinforcing.
Stage 2:
Actually lesson, so the lesson will be structured into either 2 or 3 phases. For example if you were to book a standard one hour lesson with myself. The lesson can be broken down into 3 parts, all parts looking to address the key areas for further learning improvements, identified as part of the action plan. So say for example we have collectively identified that you requires improving your ability to spell, your creative writing structure and technique for revising and practicing past GCSE English papers. The slot will be broken down as follows, 20 minutes focus on spellings, phonics and break down of words, to improve your spelling technique. 2nd part of the lesson, will be another 20 minutes dedicated to working on your ability to write creatively, we will look at the structure of writing a story, the way, we can formulate ideas and plan for a story or creative writing, character development, location/setting, dialogue, e.t.c. The third and final part pr phases of our lesson, will be the last 20 minutes, and we will dedicate this to working on your exam skills, looking at past papers, analysing past paper question, breaking these down, I understanding the key components of what the examiner is hinting at, in the questions posed, model or sample answers, looking at how these sample answers are structure, good and bad things about them. Then putting together our very own ideal exam answers, to meeting the expectations of the exam questions.
Finally after the conclusion of your lesson. We have a little debrief straight after the lesson or even via mobile, were you as my client, can debrief me on how you feel the lesson went, areas we can work on together, to meet your support needs further e.t.c. I'll also be on hand, to provide after lesson support, so if you need for example advice on an area of your work or need me to proof read for you, and give you my opinion, I will be open to this.
