The language acquisition process varies for each student, which is why I tailor my lessons to individual needs through interactive and creative activities. These activities are designed around the lesson topic and the student's personal interests, such as movies, books, TV shows, sports, celebrities, and music. Depending on the student's age and English proficiency level, the lessons can incorporate more technical information to ensure comprehensive understanding and engagement.
It is very important to keep in mind certain differences when tailoring the lesson content for children, teenagers or adults. When it comes to teaching children, it is crucial to develop their language acquisition with a physical, hands on activities, focusing on the "here and now," using authentic, meaningful language embedded with context, and a variety of animated, creative activities. With teenagers, it's important keep their evolving attention spans with a variety of sensory input, affirming their talents & strengths to not compromise their self esteem. When teaching adults, it's possible to include more abstract rules and concepts, leaving the sensory input to their imagination. Given their longer attention spans, it's possible to include more context reduced segments to dissect the linguistic properties. Regardless of the age of the students, opportunities are given for choices, as well as respect for their emotions.
My experience as an ESL teacher comprises a diverse range of students, including those from preschool, primary, secondary, and high school. Additionally, I have taught adults seeking to enhance their conversational skills and have tutored students preparing for the TOEFL proficiency exam.
