As an experienced Spanish and French tutor for a few years, I have worked with children and teenagers from 6-16, all of which had basic Spanish competencies.
I like to aim for a complete language immersion and teach my classes completely in Spanish, if the student’s level allows it.
I believe that, in order to be successful at learning Spanish, the student should also be exposed to different types of media such as films, music, TV shows or books, which I find are also an interesting element to add to lessons. Students enjoy this and it makes it easier for them to progress in their understanding of the language.
However, given that Spanish grammar can be somewhat complicated, I also aim to give a full understanding of the different verbal tenses, regular and irregular, and how to be able to form a sentence by yourself instead of just memorizing words. I believe that this is a more dynamic approach, easier to engage with and more interesting.
Depending on the wants and needs of each student, I can adapt the level and kind of classes. There’s many different themes that one might want to learn, and whilst I can focus on schoolwork for children, I can also teach to adult students who want to delve into more serious topics or learn how to use the language in a work or social setting.
Again, exposure to Spanish media is crucial for this, as it’s one of the best ways of being able to actually understand conversational Spanish.
