I always ask the students what they would like out of their lessons with me. I then create a plan to address their concerns or weaknesses. I also ask about their expected outcomes and target grades so I can work towards achieving those with my pupils.
For existing students I usually start with a recall activity or a review of homework. I then address any gaps in knowledge and proceed to complete some exam style questions. I model marking so students can clearly see their mistakes/improvements.
I like students to be able to become comfortable with mark schemes and exam language so they can apply their knowledge to questions more effectively.
I use a range of resources and will always recommend appropriate websites/books/ academic articles and videos that can assist with learning. Majority of my lessons are taught using PowerPoints however, I love to draw diagrams to illustrate physical geography processes. I make use of technology as well as stationary such as highlighters so pupils can achieve the best outcomes. I also teach the most effective ways to learn and revise and condense notes so different learners can benefit from a range of techniques and pick those that suit them best.
Most importantly I want student satisfaction and for them to grasp concepts that they may struggle with in a classroom setting. I find it rewarding when my students achieve their potential and make progress. I am always open to feedback and communication from my students and their family members.
