I fell in love with English teaching when I was in High School as my tutor had really encouraged me to engage in the subject more. This is what then led to me beginning to shadow my teachers in their junior classes and was able to provide a pupil's outlook through micro-teaching. I was able to learn the different teaching methodologies and see first-hand the skillful use of pedagogy. During my observations of their lessons, I was able to give critical feedback that then followed with observations on how to engage the pupils more and discuss more effective presentations and worksheets. I believe this to have made a great foundation for my tutoring abilities and has impacted my way of teaching significantly.
I would like to have a provisional meeting with the child to be able to understand what their goals are for the year and the content they will be assessed on. Once this has taken place, I will be able to set up personalised sessions for the child and cater to their needs and strengths. I like to create immersive lessons instead of overloading with information, this includes power points, quizzes, and small homework tasks. I also don't believe in undermining or "telling off" the child and work on creating a positive and comfortable environment for both parties involved.
