I think the best way to learn another language is to go and live in that country where the language is spoken.
This is the way I learned lots of languages.
When I arrived in Italy I was only 10 years old. I grow up in Moldova where people speak both Romanian and Russian.
First week I could not understand a word. But after 3 months I started speaking a great Italian.
When there is no possibility to go in that certain country and learn its language, there are other efficient methods as well. Methods I learned during my teaching career in the last 10 years.
First, it is mandatory not to translate from English to Italian, Or Italian-English word by word. At first it is hard, but after a while you get used to it.
Second, start learning the way you learned your native language.
Third is practice!
The key is speaking without being afraid of making mistakes. It doesn't matter. Pronunciation, accents are different and there are lots of verbs!
Grammar is quite important, but not that difficult.
As I always say: if the bear learned to ride a bicycle, nothing is impossible!
The lesson's structure should be like this:
Introduction
Oral and written comprehension-hearing and repeating in order to get used to understand and speak!
Learn to make own presentation and than forward depending on what you are planning to do. Wheter you need to learn the language for professional reasons, school or own pleasure, the lesson will be structured following the learner's needs!
