Previously working on a tutoring program for CoachBright has given me the skills to plan and deliver lessons tailored to different students' needs.
I use a variety of formats based on each individuals learning style and areas of strength and weakness. These range from PowerPoints and worked-through examples to worksheets and quizzes. Each lesson I deliver includes a range of activities to keep students engaged while actively learning. Having studied maths myself, and working towards a degree where I use maths daily, allows me to put myself in the student's position and teach from the experience of learning and revising the content. This enables me to explain concepts on a level that students of all ages can understand. Additionally having learnt about metacognition and its importance I can enable students to reflect on their learning to understand which techniques work best for them. As a result, they will be able to progress independently in the future due to having a better understanding of how they learn and which techniques they find effective. The goal of all lessons is for students to learn and gain confidence so that they can excel. I will both demonstrate how to solve problems and work through problems with the student before allowing them to attempt them themselves, assisting if they get stuck while still giving them independence by getting them to talk through how they think they could approach the problem.
