I provide my students with one to one support in English. I tutor primary school children from year 4 onwards. I believe that English is a vital subject and the basis to everything which is why I’m quite passionate about teaching it to others. The first ever lesson the student has with me I like to get to know them and their interests rather than diving straight into the teaching. It’s important to first build a trust and communication with the students so they know you’re approachable and easy going. This way they won’t be held back to inform you on anything they’re struggling with. When it comes to the actual lessons I find different ways in which my students can approach a question/topic. This way I will know what works best for them so I can use that method in the following lessons with them. Alongside the main teaching I give a spelling test each lesson based on their age suitability. This will encourage them to use a variety of words and I’ll show them sentence examples in which they can use those words. By the end of the lesson I’ll ask my students how confident they were and if there is anything I need to go over with them again.
