I typically start my new students with covering what they already know and learning more about what they are struggling with in their courses. I use those challenging topics as the driving force for the rest of my lessons. I typically start my new students with covering what they already know and learning more about what they are struggling with in their courses. I use those challenging topics as the driving force for the rest of my lessons. I also like to learn more about the learning styles that work best and what kind of methods are most effective for studying. I will also use this information to model my lessons.
Then, I like to draft a work plan and set goals for the month on what kind of objectives we will work towards each week, so we can check-in periodically and measure progress.
Finally, my lessons follow a format of a short review of concepts, a check for understanding through various independent problems, then a final walk-through of each problem together. Then I leave room at the end of the session for question or to re-review anything that still needs to be cleared up.
