Interactivity, interactivity, interactivity!!! The key to unlocking students potential is keeping them engaged and having fun! When there is a greater willingness to learn, that’s when children begin to improve and prosper.
As for structure, PowerPoints allow for easy and accessible recounts of lessons which I can share with my students outside of class or even to familiarise them before the lessons. During the lessons short, punchy activities to keep them engaged, I feel works best instead of long, droning activities that won’t activate the creativity needed for English.
Regular feedback and progress checks are essential so parents and students can see how well they’re doing! I also believe it spurs encouragement in them to see their potential and to have a can-do attitude to learning.
In terms of class dynamics, discussion type learning is essential in developing one’s understanding for English. It encourages independence in their thoughts and opinions and allows them to write in a more nuanced and analytical manner.
I have tutored many children in the past 4 years and even attended many different tutors myself in the past; I feel this gives me a well rounded view on how different approaches and styles of learning work or maybe don’t work. It is because of all my experience in the tutoring world and industry as well as my personal studies in English that I feel I can deliver in aiding children to reach heights they didn’t think they could reach. Children are the priority and will always be the priority in my teaching.
