In my lessons, my main aim is to help each child become a fearless learner. One way in which I do this is by encouraging each child to try their best and not be afraid to make mistakes. In the past I have typically worked with around 4-6 children at once and I have found that partner work amongst the students is great at helping the children confidently verbalise the content they have just learnt. I have also been able to successfully adapt my teaching method to suit each child and ensure the best outcomes.
Having achieved two grade 8s in my English GCSEs and an A in A-level English literature, I have mastered effective essay writing and revision strategies that have helped me achieve these grades.
During my lessons, I like to start with a quiz based on the content from last lesson in order to ensure the information is embedded in my students’ long term memory. In addition to this, after each unit I create a small exam for my students using exam style questions in order for them to practice timed conditions. Moreover, I have found, in both my own studies and in my past students’, that mnemonics are very effective as remembering a simple mnemonic has helped students remember how to structure their essays, as well as ensuring they understand a range of subject terminology from simple verbs to juxtaposition. This will force them into the habit of writing at a higher level. I believe this will make them better students.
