You dictate the content and goals: I'll introduce a variety of learning techniques so we can settle into a pattern we're both comfortable with. I think successful learning takes place when the learner is relaxed, engaged and challenged. Lessons will have a mix of activities and the pace will vary too. I will look to limit my teacher talk time as each session is a workshop- not a lecture. I will set goals at the start and we'll agree targets and regularly assess how things are going. To best achieve, the learner needs to be happy with the process: I'll regularly seek your input and feedback and adapt accordingly. I will draw on my teaching experience - particularly my keystage 3 and 4 experience. I have also marked GCSE English papers for the WJEC and that helps shape my GCSE preparation work. Skillswise, I can draw on my international teaching and tuition to support, but also vary, the delivery alongside school work. I will look to take onboard school feedback and goals to ensure your progression works towards those targets rather than adding more. I can teach in person or remotely across a few different platforms but ideally Microsoft Teams. I believe in a holistic learning experience: I hope you will grow in confidence and as a person - it’s not just about grades. I’m based in Blackwood, South Wales- will travel locally - timetable depending. I have 20+ years’ teaching experience: mostly UK schools and tuition, but also including TEFL and International Baccalaureate overseas.

I was tutored by Hywel for 2+ years and I couldn’t have asked for a better tutor! Hywel is very friendly and understanding, and always made sure that my academic needs were being met. His teaching style was very engaging as he used a variety of resources to teach with (text-books, videos, online sources, worksheets). As I was studying for my GCSEs, Hywel covered a range of subjects and made sure I was equally prepared for each exam. Overall, if you are looking for a reliable and friendly tutor I highly recommend Hywel, as he enabled me to see my potential and provided me with the support and education I needed to succeed.

Hywel taught me in school for my first 2 years, after this I was removed from mainstream education for my behaviour, Hywel then tutored me for the last 6 months of my education, Hywel both in school and my home was very respectful and taught me in the manner I wanted to be taught in, he is a very kind and caring man when it comes to children’s education, he is very patient and will explain over and over in different ways to make sure I understood what I was being taught, I recommend Hywel to any parent or child.

As a lone parent working full-time, I am truly grateful that Hywel was available to help my daughter throughout her studies. After being off school for a little while due to injury, my daughter had lost all confidence in herself. She was disinterested in going into school and it was a constant struggle to engage with her about what was going on in school. With the help of Hywel, she has become much more herself and works hard every single day. She achieved great grades in both her GCSE’s and A levels (with 100% attendance) and is now focusing on a career in Social work. My daughter is really grateful of his time, dedication and reliability and I’ve had the pleasure of watching my child go from a non-confident little girl to a courageous and confident young woman. In addition, Hywel was not only a brilliant and inclusive tutor, the tuition is affordable and was definitely well worth it.
