I will ask a student what they are struggling with in order to identify the areas to focus on. I believe practical learning is very important therefore I adopt a hands-on approach, working alongside the student on pieces. I will teach the students about the area they are struggling on before we complete a practical task together. This approach has been effective for me from when I taught Years 7-10 students for 2 hours every week as I created fun activities to engage them in their work which increased their learning. I am very experienced with English as I got an 8 in GCSE, an A in A-level and am studying it at The University of Exeter. I like to adopt the spaced repetition method of learning, especially for learning quotes or facts for certain books, for example, during my A-Level revision I learnt over 200 quotes of by heart using this method. Furthermore, during my lessons, when focusing on analysing literature I tend to teach students to focus on questioning the writing itself. This can be done by asking the 5 key questions (Who? What? Where? Why? How?) or by questioning the intentions of the author as it is key for students to learn that every line has a meaning. I like to teach others about how to approach analysis and how to write about this as I have methods that consistently produce good results whether it be an unseen text or a book you have studies. Ultimately, I aim to provide engaging lessons that significantly develop a student's knowledge for English.
