I like to take a personalised approach to my lessons, so that they’re always engaging for my students. I try and encourage students to engage with the French language through their interests, whether that be film, music, reading, art, or anything in between! I find that this allows for an understanding not only of the language, but of the culture that surrounds the French language.

I also believe it’s important to learn the fundamentals of grammar, as while not always the most exciting, they form the pillar of (particularly written) French. Understanding conjugation, agreements, and genders is incredibly useful when reading and writing in French, and learning these will be invaluable if a student is pursuing a qualification.

Another aspect to my teaching is course-specific help; I’ve been through the UK state education system so I am well versed in the GCSE and A-Level formats, as well as the university applications process. I like to tailor my lessons based on the specific course my student might be taking, as this is the best way to ensure that they’ll meet their targets and aspirations!

Most importantly of all, I try and foster an interest and a passion for the subject. This isn’t always easy in a school environment, but I believe through individual tutoring and a personalised approach, it’s possible. Learning a language becomes easier when a student is engaged with it in a meaningful way, and the best way to encourage them to do this is by fostering a sense of curiosity, interest, and a belief in the importance of the French language!
